Things to do
Meet the Pygmy Goats
Say hello to our friendly pygmy goats 'Maggie and Ivy'. You will find them babysitting the chickens in their paddock. They are very cheeky and make for great entertainment.
Meet the Silkies
Our fluffy little chickens are hard to miss. Unlike normal chickens the Silkies are little bundles of cuteness and as their namesake implies, have soft fluffy coats, rather than the usual smooth feathers. They are very placid, and can also be very entertaining to watch. If you are lucky you might spot them having a ride on the back of one of the goats, or even better, get to see some of the newly hatched chicks (we have loads hatching this time of year).
Walking/Cycling
We are fortunate to be located right on the Trans Pennine Trail. This make us an ideal stop for coast to coast cyclists and walkers, where they can have a hot shower, and relax in peaceful surroundings. There are some lovely walks and safe cycling routes for those with younger children. As a family we do quite a lot of hiking and can recommend some lovely routes, ranging from 1 hour to half a days walk, right from our doortstep.
Birdwatching/Nature
We have a fantastic location, right behind the Burnet Heritage Trust. If you enjoy spotting rare birds and the other local wildlife, then you couldn't be in a better location. Red Kites, Willow Warblers, Buzzards, Cuckoos, Green Woodpecker, Kingfishers and Tawny Owls (which bizarrely can be heard throughout the day) are just a handful of the many birds that have been spotted recently. Bring your binoculars and see what you can spot from camp, or cross the river via the ancient bridge and set up at the Burnet Hide if this is more your thing. Deer, Bats and Badgers are also frequent visitors. If you are up late at night, or early at dawn, you may be lucky enough to see a deer walking past your tent.
Fishing/Pond dipping
Your camp is right alongside the River Went. Fishing is permitted from the bank. You are also welcome to fish are beautiful pond which contains a large number of Rudd, Perch and Roach. There is also a 3ft Sturgeon you may be lucky to hook. We are also aiming to include a head of Carp and Tench in the coming weeks. There are also some very well reviewed fisheries in the vicinity, please ask for further information on these. Our pond is also teeming with wildlife, frogs, newts, carp, swans and ducks can be seen. Pond dipping is allowed, however please be respectful of Mother Duck and her ducklings who live on the island and the Swans who visit daily via the river.
Horses
We have some very pretty horses on the property. These can be admired grazing throughout the day in their field and are easily spotted from your camp. If you want to get a little closer to the horses, goats and chickens, please ask when you book your stay and we will try to accommodate this (free of charge).
Other things to do
